Planning for Success – Today and Tomorrow
Strategic Goals
Our strategic goals ensure Mackenzie College continues to grow as a forward-thinking, inclusive, and high-achieving school community. Our strategic focus is built around four key areas: Culture – fostering a positive, inclusive environment where every individual feels seen and supported. Learning – offering high-quality, personalised education that helps every student reach their potential. Well-being – promoting mental, emotional, and physical wellness through proactive support systems. Community – building strong, meaningful relationships with whānau and the wider region. Through these goals, we create a sustainable and inspiring future for our learners and staff.
Culture
The school will continue to build and maintain a positive school culture. To achieve this goal, we must:
- Promote inclusivity and equity for all. This could include but is not limited to – ethnicities, learning needs, gender identity, sexual orientation and financial status.
- Promote culturally responsive teaching pedagogy by tailoring school wide PLD.
- Ensure behaviour expectations are clear, fair and delivered consistently.
- Actively teach positive behaviour through the PB4L programme and continue to embed our school values.
- Continue using restorative practice in our interactions with students, staff and whānau.

Learning
Catering to all learners (students and staff) by providing programmes that allow them to achieve personal excellence which enables them to flourish in the future. To achieve this goal, we must:
- Ensure high-quality teaching.
- Identify and respond to the unique needs of each individual student.
- Provide effective and meaningful vocational and academic pathways.
- Ensure that all student’s NCEA results reflect their potential.
- Support all learners in setting challenging and achievable goals.
- Use data to inform teacher practice.
- Ensure literacy and numeracy teaching is effectively embedded school-wide.
- Ensure staff have access to meaningful learning opportunities to meet professional goals.

Well-Being
Promote the well-being of all students and staff so that they are able to thrive in a positive and inclusive learning environment. To achieve this goal, we must:
- Provide education and tools to students, staff and whānau to identify and manage their own well-being.
- Look for opportunities for well-being to be taught explicitly across the school and curriculum.
- Maintain strong positive connections with whānau and external agencies to increase student attendance.
- Regularly review our pastoral care processes to ensure they meet student needs.
- Seek student and staff voice around well-being to inform processes.
- Encourage students and members of our community to be positive digital citizens who are actively aware of their digital footprint.
- Ensure the school is an attractive and welcoming place.

Community
Our school has integral relationships with whānau and the community. The school is at the heart of the community. To achieve this goal, we must:
- Actively promote all aspects of the school through social media, advertising, newsletters and website.
- Increase community engagement through enhanced communication and invitation.
- Explore ways to engage the community, whānau and iwi.
- Look for opportunities to embed the school in our community.
- Collect community, staff and student voice to ensure we meet community needs and stay future-focused.
