Mackenzie College has the reputation of having active, physically skilled students who contend very competitively against larger schools. Our students are encouraged to participate in a diverse range of sporting and physical activity opportunities. These activities include the traditional school sports such as rugby, netball, hockey, volleyball, basketball and many more. Also, our students are engaged in other, less mainstream, activities such as snowsports, mountain biking, Coast to Coast, equestrian, rock climbing, slacklining and kayaking – to name a few.
We are privileged to be situated in a unique environment that allows access to an extensive range of outdoor activities on our doorstep. Our proximity to the Southern Alps, ski fields, lakes, the Mackenzie Basin and rivers is one of the most valuable resources our school has, and this allows for ease of access within the everyday running of the school. As an example, our snowsports programme sees over quarter of our students hitting the slopes of Mt Dobson each Wednesday in term 3.
Engagement in sport is encouraged through many facets of school life. A dynamic physical education programme allows for the development of a diverse range of specialised skills from year 7 to year 13. Our Wednesday sports programme ensures that every student grows in physical activities chosen from the many on offer.
