Guided by Integrity, Grit, and Creativity
Our Values
Our core values are more than words—they shape our culture and guide our actions. We believe in fostering kindness, respect, aspiration, and resilience in every student. Mackenzie College is built on a foundation of five guiding values: Manaakitanga (Kindness and Respect), Wawata (Aspire), Niwha (Grit), Tika (Integrity) and Auaha (Creativity).
These principles are woven through everyday learning, relationships, and decision-making. From academic work to personal development, students are encouraged to live out these values as they grow into thoughtful, driven, and community-minded young adults.

Manaakitanga is at the heart of our school culture. It’s reflected in the way we care for one another, build connections, and create a safe, inclusive environment. Students learn to value themselves and others, contributing to a community where everyone belongs.

At Mackenzie College, we encourage students to dream big and set ambitious goals. Wawata means striving for excellence, both in learning and personal growth. We support each learner to discover their potential and pursue a future they can be proud of.

Grit is what drives our students to keep going when challenges arise. Niwha speaks to the resilience, determination, and perseverance we build through real-world learning and strong relationships. It’s about developing the courage to face obstacles and grow through them.

Tika guides how we act—with honesty, fairness, and accountability. Students are encouraged to do the right thing, even when it’s difficult, and to stand by their values. It’s a foundation that shapes strong character and ethical leadership.

Creativity flourishes at Mackenzie College—in the arts, the classroom, and everyday problem-solving. Auaha empowers students to think outside the box, explore new ideas, and express themselves with confidence. It’s how we nurture innovation and spark lifelong curiosity.
