Kia ora Whānau!
The year has already started for some of our students. I had the pleasure of enjoying the afternoon yesterday with our year 12 and 13 leaders on peer support camp. I am extremely confident that these wonderful students will step up to the mark and support our Year 7s as they transition to our college.
Welcome
Our new Year 7 students arrived this morning with an enthusiastic and motivated approach to beginning their time with us. We warmly welcome them and their families to the Mackenzie College community. As well as our Year 7 students, we have nine additional enrolments in the junior school, and we are equally as excited to welcome them on Friday.
New Staff
We are thrilled to have Claire Dann join our team as Arts Coordinator, and Rachel Thompson returning from maternity leave to lead our Art Department.
NCEA Endorsement Evening
On Thursday, 2nd February at 7 pm, we celebrate the fantastic effort of last year’s Year 11-13 students in passing their NCEA certificates and gaining endorsements. Students with certificates endorsed at Merit and Excellence will have received an invitation to our semi-formal ceremony from Mrs Dooley. If not, please contact Mrs Dooley at denised@mackcollege.school.nz
School Pōwhiri (Official Welcome)
As part of the Friday events, new students are welcomed with a Pōwhiri. All families who are new to the college are encouraged to attend.
All new students and their families are to assemble at the soft tech room at 8.55 am. Years 8 to 13 students are to meet in the gym at 8.55 am. There will be some morning tea kai that follows the Pōwhiri.
First Assembly
Following the Pōwhiri and kai, we will move back into the gym for a quick school assembly. During this time, we will be announcing 2023 student leadership positions. We invite anyone from our school community to join us in these significant announcements. Please don’t be shy, we would love you to attend.
Meet The Teacher BBQ
The annual Meet-the-Teacher Picnic (BBQ) will be held on Wednesday, the 8th of February, starting at 5 pm. New and current families are invited to meet our staff, so keep this evening free! All you need to bring are salads (optional) and a picnic blanket (also optional). A reminder that this is a smoke-free and alcohol-free event.
Accessing Addition Information
The Parent Portal login information will be sent out in the next week. This login gives parents and students further information, such as timetables, reports and a calendar of school events.
Also, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
